Śrīgosahasranāmastotram (English: The auspicious hymn of praise with one thousand names of the mother cow) is a Saṃskṛta Sahasranāma composed by Gurudeva in 108 verses (107 Anuṣṭup verses and one Āryā verse). The Stotram gives one thousand names of the Gomātā, the sacred cow, accorded the status of mother in Sanātana Dharma. The Stotram was composed by Gurudeva in 2005 at the Godhāma Mahātīrtha (गोधाम महातीर्थ), Ānandavana (आनन्दवन), at Pathmeda (पथमेड़ा) in Rajasthan.

Godhāma Mahātīrtha, Ānandavana, is one of the biggest Gośālās (cow-pens) in India. It is located at Pathmeda (पथमेड़ा), in the Barmer district of Rajasthan. Traditional accounts say it is here in Ānandavana that Aniruddha, the son of Pradyumna and the grandson of Lord Śrīkṛṣṇa, established a giant Gośālā in Dvāpara Yuga. In modern times, the ancient Gośālā was revived several times and was witness to events like Maharaja Shambhu Singh's sacrifice in 1240 AD, and the penance by Yogi Rattan Dev who campaigned for Gorakṣā during the 1857 war of independence. In 1993, the nation-wide Gosevā Abhiyāna was started from this place. As of 2005, the Gośālā was spread over 1600 acres and housed more than 55,000 cows. The composition of Śrīgosahasranāmastotram came about as the result of a request to Gurudeva by a saint. Gurudeva was in the Balotara city of Barmer district of Rajasthan in February-March 2005 to deliver a Kathā. At the insistence of Svāmī Dattaśaraṇānanda, he stayed at the Godhāma Mahātīrtha on the night of March 5, 2005. A disciple of Svāmī Dattaśaraṇānanda, Jñānānanda Mahārāja, remarked that he had not come across a Sahasranāmastotra devoted to Gomātā in the Sanātana Dharma scriptures and literature, and requested Gurudeva to compose one. Gurudeva composed the Gosahasranāmastotram over the next few days which was written down by Jayaprakāśa Nārāyaṇa Gautama, who was the Antevāsin scribe of Gurudeva in 2005.

Śrīgosahasranāmastotram is one of its kind in the praise of Gomātā. It is a unique Sahasranāmastotram which does not use any additional words (तथा, हि, च, et cetera) as fillers (पादपूरक) and contains the 1000 names of Gomātā plus the two words सन्ततं जयति (is ever victorious). It is also miraculous that the whole Stotram is contained in exactly 108 verses.

Śrīgosahasranāmastotram was first published in the year 2010 by Tulsi Mandal, Ghaziabad, as a part of the Festschrift book Ṣaṣṭipūrti (Abhinandana Grantha), ISBN: 978-81-923856-0-0. The first digital edition of the work, based on the Ṣaṣṭipūrti edition, was published in September 2012. The second digital edition of the work was published on October 19 2013. Changes in the second digital edition –

• Some names were incorrect in the first edition due to scribal, typographic and editorial errors. These errors have been corrected.
• Typesetting is now in XeLaTeX using Sanskrit 2003 font.
• The benedictory and introductory verses have been added.
• Verse numbering has been corrected and it now begins with the first name. The incorrect verse numbering (1 to 111) in the first digital edition concealed the miraculous fact that the 1000 names are contained in exactly 108 verses.
• The running number of the names has been added on each line of the Stotram.
• A new alphabetical index of the names (अकाराद्यनुक्रमनामावलिः) has been added to assist searching for a particular name.

Readers are requested to point out any typographic errors they come across in the Stotram so that we may correct them.
